This week the right wing press reached new levels of mouth-foaming viciousness over the news that 427,000 Eastern European workers had legimately come to the UK to work in the last 2 years.
In an excellent article (which I can’t link to as it’s not free, sadly) Independent columnist Yasmin Alibhai Brown echoes the my views on the latest hysteria. Here’s an excerpt:
“Two fit white British men loiter outside my local bank. They beg. I asked if they wanted to clear out my back garden for a fair wage, They said I was one crazy lady. Polish Andrew did the job cheerfully and efficiently. God bless bloody foreigners who do our dirty work and are then damned by an ungrateful, obtuse nation.”
